Offered for sale is a custom fixed-blade chute knife, hand-made in USA by Gordon Romeis of Fort Myers, Florida, probably ca. 1990s. This knife is based on a design by the legendary knifemaker Bob Loveless, who is credited by many for designing the first chute knife for use by paratroopers during the Vietnam war (some say A. G. Russell made the first chute knife, but no one knows for sure). Gordon Romeis has been making knives since 1977, and is a Knifemakers Guild member. This knife features a stainless steel clip-point blade that is sharpened on both the top and bottom edges (to facilitate quick exit from tangled parachute lines), a stainless steel double hilt, and a very nice exotic wood handle with a tiger stripe grain pattern, possibly tiger maple. The blade is 4-1/8″ long and 3/16″ thick at the hilt. Overall length is 8-1/2″. The blade is tang stamped Gordon Romeis, Maker, Fort Myers, FLA. The knife is in excellent condition overall, showing signs of occasional carry. The blade appears to be 100% intact. The handle is in excellent condition. The fit and finish is superb. The knife includes a high quality custom made leather sheath by Sullivan’s Holster Shop of Tampa, FL (now of Odessa, FL), which shows signs of light carry. This knife is very well made, and will provide many years of service with proper care. Or, it would be right at home in a collection of custom knives. You can own this very high quality handmade knife from a very highly regarded maker, for $399.99.
