Offered for sale is an antique Hamilton #2974B (USA) open-faced pocket comparing watch, probably ca. 1943. Comparing watches were used aboard U.S. Navy ships to synchronize all shipboard clocks to the ship’s master chronometer. Although most Navy comparing watches had military markings on the caseback, this one does not. There could be several reasons for this. One possibility is that the caseback was replaced at one point. Another is that this particular watch was not issued to the Navy, even though these watches were made specifically for them. This is a 16-size watch, and measures approximately 50mm (2″) diameter. This watch features a chromium plated screw back and bezel case, a 17-jewel adjusted stem-wind stem-set movement with hacking device, and a single-sunk porcelain dial with Arabic numerals. The case is in excellent condition, showing signs of light pocket carry. The dial is in excellent condition, with no visible cracks. The movement runs and keeps excellent time. Overall, a very presentable watch that is ready to carry with pride or present as a wonderful gift to a person who appreciates fine timepieces. You can own this very high grade, super clean American-made pocket watch, for $599.99/obo.
