Sam McDowell Folding Lockback Hunting Knife, Custom Scrimshaw Handle, FANCY

Category: .

Product Description

Offered for sale is a pre-owned Sam McDowell folding lockback hunting knife, made in Japan, probably ca. 1999.  Collectors’ Knives by Sam McDowell are designed by Sam McDowell and made for him by Kai Cutlery of Seki City, Japan, an area known for making some of the best blade steels.  Sam McDowell then hand-engraves his own original artwork on the handles in a scrimshaw fashion, and signs each knife.  This knife features a stainless steel clip point blade, a blade locking device, nickel silver bolsters with a fancy engraved Florentine pattern, brass liners, a lanyard hole, and ivory-colored micarta handle scales.  The handle scales are engraved with a scrimshaw image of yachts racing on one side, and a humpback whale on the other side, and are signed Sam McDowell 1999.  Length closed is 4-5/8″.  The blade is tang stamped Collectors Knives by Sam McDowell, Surgical Steel Seki City Japan.  The knife is in excellent, like-new condition overall, showing signs of occasional handling.  The blade appears to be unsharpened.  The blade locks up tight with no wobble.  There is no sheath with this knife, however I have seen many nice custom sheaths offered for sale on eBay.  This knife is very well made, and will provide many years of service with proper care.  Or, it would be right at home in a collection of vintage pocket knives.  You can own this very high quality vintage pocket knife for $399.99.
