Description
Offered for sale is a vintage Ball Commercial wrist watch, Swiss-made, probably ca. 1960s. The Ball Commercial model is similar to the Ball Official RR Standard Trainmaster watch in many ways, however the Commercial model was not approved for railroad service in the way the Trainmaster was. The Commercial model was made for bus, trolley, and light-rail drivers, as well as police and firefighters or anyone else who wanted an easy-to-read, reliable, high-quality watch but did not require it to meet railroad specifications. This watch features a solid stainless steel screwback case, a 17-jewel manual wind movement with hacking device and anti-magnetic shield, and a white railroad style dial with black numerals. The case is in excellent condition, showing signs of occasional wear. The movement runs and keeps excellent time. The dial is in excellent original condition, showing some slight fading of the hour markers in a few spots. Overall, a very presentable watch that is ready to wear in style. This watch measures 34mm wide (without crown). Fitted with a new deBeer leather strap. In my years of dealing in vintage watches, I have seen very few of the Ball Commercial watches, though I have seen many of the Trainmaster watches. My guess is, the Commercial was far less popular than the Trainmaster when it was new, and is much harder to find today. You can own this high grade, attractive, highly collectible, ready-to-wear vintage watch, for $699.99.
