Offered for sale is a vintage Wakmann Nautoscaph 999ft automatic dive wrist watch, Swiss made, ca. 1960s. According to an article in the February 2010 issue of Watchtime magazine, the Nautoscaph watch was made famous as the watch worn by shark expert Matt Hooper (played by actor Richard Dreyfuss) in the 1976 film “Jaws.” The Nautoscaph watch was made by the Alstater Watch Co, and sold under several different brand names including Wakmann and Alsta. This watch features a heavy solid stainless steel screwback case, a screw-down crown, a bi-directional rotating outer bezel, a 17-jewel Swiss automatic movement, and a black dial with luminous hands and hour markers and quick-set date display. The case is in excellent condition, showing signs of occasional wear. The movement was serviced in November 2019, and runs and keeps excellent time. The dial is in very good original condition, showing some minor spotting. Overall, a very presentable watch that is ready to wear. This watch measures 36.5mm wide. Fitted with a black sports strap (Note: the watch used in the film “Jaws” was fitted with a Speidel Twist-o-Flex Mach 1 bracelet. I have seen these bracelets offered on eBay, should one wish to recreate the “Jaws” watch in its entirety). You can own this high grade, attractive, highly collectible, ready-to-wear vintage sports watch, for $999.99. If you have questions about this watch or about my watch and clock repair services, please feel free to contact me.
NOTE: I do not guarantee water resistance in any antique, vintage, or pre-owned watch I sell, regardless of its manufacturer’s original water resistance rating, and I do not recommend taking any antique, vintage, or pre-owned watch in water to begin with.
