Movado Vintage Ladies 14K Gold Museum Watch, Mid Century Modern, Horwitt Design

Description

Offered for sale is a vintage ladies’ Movado-Zenith Museum Watch, Swiss made, circa 1960s.  The Museum Watch is based on a mid-20th century watch design by Nathan George Horwitt, an original example of which is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.  As the story goes, Movado copied Horwitt’s design, and started selling the Museum watches in the 1950s.  Horwitt fought with Movado for decades over royalties for his design, and they finally reached a settlement in 1990.  The earlier Museum watches, such as this one, remained true to Horwitt’s design, but by the 1980s and 1990s, Movado had altered the design considerably.  This watch features a solid 14K yellow gold case, a 17-jewel manual wind movement, and a black dial with a single gold hour marker at the 12 o’clock position.  The case is in excellent condition, showing signs of occasional wear.  The dial is in excellent original condition.  The crystal has some very minor surface scratching.  The movement is in excellent running order.  Overall, a very presentable watch that is ready to wear.  Size: 24mm diameter (without crown).  The case without the movement weighs 0.32 troy ounce.  Fitted with a black leather strap.  You can own this very high grade, attractive Swiss made ladies’ watch, from a time when Movado watches were regarded as some of the finest in the world, for $499.99.  If you have questions about this watch or about my watch and clock repair services, please feel free to contact me.
