Description
Offered for sale is a vintage Longines wrist watch of the Art Deco period, Swiss-made, circa 1920s or 1930s. This watch was retailed by Webb C. Ball, a very prominent jeweler in Cleveland, Ohio. Webb C. Ball was very influential in developing standards for railroad timekeeping and criteria for railroad-approved watches in the USA, and distributed his own line of railroad-approved pocket watches and wrist watches. This watch features white Gold filled Deco style snapback case with a fancy embossed pattern on the sides, a 17-jewel calibre 9.47N manual wind movement, and a silver dial with luminous hands and hour markers (note: the luminous material no longer glows). The case is in very good condition, showing signs of occasional wear and some very minor wear-through of the white gold finish at the high points (noticeable only if you look very closely). There is a light personal engraving on the caseback. The movement runs and keeps excellent time. The dial appears to be an older refinish of average quality, and shows a patina appropriate for its age. Overall, a very presentable watch that is ready to wear in style. This watch measures 22mm wide (without crown) x 38mm lug-to-lug. Fitted with a brown leather strap. You can own this high grade, attractive, ready-to-wear vintage watch, for $399.99.
