Description
Offered for sale is an antique Hamilton 940 open-faced private-label railroad pocket watch, retailed by B. Anderson of Kindred, North Dakota, made in USA circa 1911. Kindred, ND is a small town located 25 miles southwest of Fargo ND, and was once a stop on the Great Northern Railway route. I suspect that B. Anderson was once a prominent jeweler and railroad watch inspector, though I have not yet found any information on that. This is an 18-size watch, and measures approximately 55mm (2-3/16″) diameter. This watch features a Fahys “Guaranteed to Wear Permanently” yellow gold-filled screw back and bezel case, a 21-jewel adjusted stem-wind lever-set Railroad Grade 940 movement, and a double-sunk porcelain dial with Arabic numerals and black steel spade hands. Both the dial and the movement are signed “B. Anderson, Kindred, No. Dak.” The case is in excellent condition, showing signs of light pocket carry with a personal monogram on the caseback. The dial is in excellent original condition, showing no visible cracks or chips. The movement runs and keeps excellent time. Overall, a presentable watch that is ready to carry with pride or present as a wonderful gift to a person who appreciates fine timepieces. This is a great crossover collectible of interest to watch collectors, railroad buffs, and North Dakota history buffs. You can own this very high grade, American-made private-label pocket watch, for $699.99.
