Description
Offered for sale is a Gerber “PAUL” button-lock (also called axial-lock) folding hunting knife made in USA, circa late 1970s or early 1980s. The Paul knife was designed by Paul Poehlmann for Gerber. Paul Poehlmann invented the axial-lock mechanism used in his knives, and hand-crafted many knives himself. Eventually, Poehlmann partnered with Gerber to manufacture his knives because he wanted to make his knives more accessible to more people. This knife is one of the first models of Paul knives Gerber ever manufactured and the number “1” is engraved on the inner spring of the knife representing the first model to be manufactured. This knife features a stainless steel drop-point blade, an axial locking device, and wood handles. This knife is model 2PW and length closed is 3-5/8″. The blade is tang stamped with “Gerber Portland, OR 97223” on one side and “Paul Model 2PW” on the other side. The axial locking mechanism is stamped with “U.S. PAT 3942249.” The knife is in excellent condition overall, showing signs of occasional use and carry. The blade appears to be 100% intact. The blade locks up tight, with very, very slight wobble. Comes with its original leather sheath. This knife would be right at home in a collection of vintage pocket knives. You can own this very high quality, highly collectible pocket knife for $299.99.
